Two-Colour Pencils

One pencil, two colours — and the pairing is the point.

Each pencil in this set carries a different colour at either end. Flip it, and the line changes. But the real work here was done before the pencils were made: Tokyo stationery brand mizushima chose every pairing the way a designer chooses a palette — colours that flatter each other, sitting back to back on a single barrel.

The two-tone bodies are as pleasing to look at as to use; lined up in their plain kraft sleeve, they read like a row of small colour studies. In the hand, they halve what you carry — one pencil in the pocket of a journal becomes a warm tone and a cool one, a colour for the words and another for the underline.
